2019- BUENOS AIRES PORT MODERNIZATION PLAN
The Embassy is pleased to inform you about the “Buenos Aires Port Modernization Plan” of the Ministry of Transport and the General Ports Administration of the Argentine Republic.
“The Buenos Aires Port is Argentina's main port for loading containers, with traffic reaching 900 KTEU (2017). It currently has three container terminals under concession agreements due to expire by may 2020. As a result, the Buenos Aires Port plans to launch an international bidding process in February 2019 for the concession of the new container terminal.
The Buenos Aires Port intends to renew the port following a flexible design that can adapt to the needs of the next fifty years in a more competitive fashion, by integrating into the world and maintaining a healthy relationship with the community, while observing environmental and quality standards.
The Modernization Plan follows the guidelines of the Strategic Sustainability Plan and the Security Plan of the Buenos Aires Port. Modernization must be both sustainable and safe.
Progress will be made during the next ten years on building an outdoor terminal, in line with the world's main ports. The goal is to build the best possible port in the shortest possible time, without affecting operations, while increasing container flow.”

Hector Timerman, de minister van Buitenlandse Zaken van Argentinië over FDI in Argentinië
Op woensdag 6 juni 2012 gaf Hector Timerman, de minister van Buitenlandse Zaken van Argentinië, een persconferentie met als titel "Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Argentinië: mythen en realiteit", om de mythes te verwerpen over directe buitenlandse investeringen en de gevolgen voor de lokale economie.
Ten eerste verwees hij naar de index: Beperkingen van directe buitenlandse investeringen (DBI) door de Organisatie voor Economische Samenwerking en Ontwikkeling (OESO). In de index die dit jaar is gepresenteerd worden maatregelen besproken die directe buitenlandse investeringen beperken en of er sprake is van discriminerende behandeling van buitenlandse investeerders. Deze ranking plaatst Argentinië onder de 11 minst restrictieve economieën voor directe buitenlandse investeringen in de wereld en op de tweede plaats van de G20 landen en binnen Latijns-Amerika. Hij voegde eraan toe dat in Argentinië, "in tegenstelling tot andere landen, buitenlandse investeerders toegang krijgen tot het lokale krediet met gelijke rechten en met dezelfde voordelen als Argentijnse investeerders."
Ten tweede benadrukte hij dat, in tegenstelling tot de jaren '90 toen 57% van de buitenlandse investeringen werd gebruikt voor privatisering en voor de aankoop van bestaande bedrijven, sinds 2003, 96% van de buitenlandse investeringen naar nieuwe projecten gaat die honderdduizenden nieuwe banen genereren.
Ten derde, benadrukte hij de verbetering van de kwaliteit van buitenlandse investeringen in Argentinië. Een vergelijking van het technologische niveau van de buitenlandse investeringen in de regio, uitgevoerd door ECLAC laat zien dat Argentinië buitenlandse investeringen ontvangt voornamelijk gericht op productieactiviteiten met hoge toegevoegde waarde die geschoolde arbeid vereisen. De buitenlandse investeringen tonen ook een evenwichtige verdeling per sector, waarbij de productieindustrie opvalt met zo´n 38%.
Ten slotte heeft hij gewezen op de aanwezigheid van meer dan 2000 buitenlandse bedrijven die volgens de Verenigde Naties in Argentinië met een lange termijnvisie en een aantrekkelijk rendement.
"De campagne die wordt gesteund door grote bedrijven en bepaalde buitenlandse regeringen voor een verdere versterking van de voordelen voor investeringen heeft de steun van lokale partners. Bepaalde maatregelen komen als gevolg van de noodzaak om de winstgevendheid te vergroten door te investeren in groeiende economieën, zoals de Argentijns. Op deze manier zullen ze in staat zijn om het dividend te verhogen die hun moedermaatschappijen zullen helpen om de crisis te overwinnen", aldus de kanselier.
Hij voegde eraan toe dat "De regering van Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner werkt aan de verdere groei en uitbreiding van binnenlandse en buitenlandse, publieke en private investeringen met als belangrijkste doel: de nationale ontwikkeling, het creëren van nieuwe banen en de naleving van de wet aangenomen door het Nationale Congres ".
